Leading the model lineup for the Mercury division in 1955 were the Custom, Monterey and Montclair series; however, it was not long before consumers felt drawn toward the all new Montclair as the car of choice. As a result, the Montclair's new looks would eventually help revitalize the company's image, sales figures and racetrack persona.

For 1955, the all new Montclair led Mercury's vehicle line-up. It featured an attractive, narrow color panel surrounded by chrome trim below the side windows and rocker panels. In addition, a round medallion was placed near the tip of the front fenders while the model name was written in chrome script just above the mid body spear. The car was also longer than its predecessors, with a more robust chassis, and a powerful engine that gained popularity among car buyers. A wraparound windshield and hooded headlights concluded the final touches to its appearance. For the 10,668 Americans lucky enough to own the Montclair Convertible Coupe the summer of 1955 was all about top-down cruising. With its standard 8.5:1 compression 292 cubic inch V8 and smooth-shifting Merc-O-Matic automatic transmission, the Montclair convertible was nothing less than a stylish ride. Clean lines and a poweroperated roof meant fun-in-the-sun was as easy as turning the ignition key.

Finished in red with a spotless red and white interior, the example offered here is well equipped, including power steering, power brakes, radio and clock. Other accessories include bumper guards, stainless body side moldings and chrome exhaust tips. The car also comes with the original owner's manual in as new condition. Indicated mileage is 42,214, although there is no means of verifying it, the indication may be based upon the condition of the car.

The Montclair is both a rare and desirable find among the pantheon of fifties cars. The car has benefited from a comprehensive restoration, including paint, chrome, interior, and engine bay detailing. Aesthetically this Montclair is first-rate; it is clear that it was restored with the intention of competing. Lose yourself in the allure of nostalgia, top down, wind in your hair, this 1955 Mercury Montclair convertible is sure to evoke nothing but pure joy to anyone lucky enough to be positioned behind the wheel.
